A Birthday Present

This month I celebrate both my birthday and the first anniversary of this website and blog. This celebratory post is a little early, but I haven’t finished the book I originally planned to write about this week, and next week there will be a time-sensitive post, so here is your present to mark both events.

Well, not exactly! I have created a one-page-book version of IF that you can download, print, and make for yourself.  You can download the 8.5 x 11 inch version here and the A4 version here.

The first step after printing is to fold the paper. Fold in half the long way,

then fold into four columns the short way by folding in half, then folding each end to the middle.

Next, open the page out flat and make a cut on the long fold across the two centre columns.

Now fold the page the long way with the print side out and make your paper look like this:

Next push the two ends towards the middle so that the gap is closed. The final step is to fold the pages into a book with your front and back pages on the outside. Your book should look like this:

If you want the book to look more like the original, you can put a band around it. I used nylon window screen for the original edition, but if you don’t have any of that lying around you could draw a window screen pattern on a strip of paper and use that.

This is a good project to do with children. If they use blank pages they can make their own story/picture books.

For those of you on Pinterest, here’s a board with links to lots of versions of the instructions for this book. Otherwise you can check out drawn instructions here and instructions for a hardcover version here.
