Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2019: Day Five and a Modular Star/Wreath

This a Robin Star, version 2. It is made from eight folded and interlocked squares of paper. The structure was designed by Maria Sinayskaya and published on-line by her in December 2012.

I first came across the Robin Star when I was researching stars for the Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2017. It is a most satisfying structure: simple to fold, and the parts stay securely locked together after assembly with no need for glue.

You can find the full set of instruction diagrams on Maria Sinayskaya’s website, goorigami, including a printable PDF of the diagrams. Alternatively, you can simply download Robin-Star-V2.

The sample stars I made started with squares roughly 10 cm/4 in and produced stars approximately 14.5 cm/5.5 in across.

The alternative version (shown at the bottom of the instructions) with the reversed lower fold shows off bi-coloured paper nicely.
