Friday Night Flicks: Art Director Donna Payne on getting started with book cover illustration

In 2011 The Guardian and publishers Faber held a competition for 13 – 16 year old students to design a cover for the school edition of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Payne’s talk about getting started in book cover design was made for this event. It features past covers of various editions of Lord of the Flies released by Faber over the years.

The Guardian published images of the twenty short-listed entries in February of 2012. You might spend a few minutes this weekend looking at them. You can decide if the judges picked the best entry. (The winner was the third image in the article.)
