Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2020: Day Twenty-two and Cube Stars

This is an up-dated version of a post from 2017 with instructions for an unusual star folded from strips of paper.

*****

I found the instructions for these stars on a Danish website.

When I asked Google translate for the English translation of terningestjerne it gave me dice star, but the translation of terning is cube, so I suspect that cube star is a more reasonable equivalent. The photographs in the instructions are labelled Flettrebenetsterne. With a little persuasion I got Google to translate that as Merge Three-legged Star. (Are any Danish readers out there able to confirm this?)

The instructions on the site are excellent, so I am reproducing them below. (If you can read Danish, or are willing to let Google translate the written instructions, please visit the link provided above.) You will need three strips of paper about 2 cm (0.75″) x 28 cm (11″).

This step takes a little fiddling, but gets a lot easier with practice.

In the hopes of making the last stages a little clearer, here’s an image of stars made with three different colours.

The green pointy finger indicates where I cut corners off to make the last stage of assembly a little easier.

If you use large enough strips of paper, say 4 cm wide (a little over 1.5″) and proportionately longer, you can wrap small presents inside. I have done two gifts that way.

Warning: if you found Froebel stars addictive, these may have the same effect. I didn’t really need to fold that many stars for the first image.

If you would rather watch a video of the instructions, here’s one from cchobby.

If you would like to learn to fold equally addictive Froebel stars instead, you will find instructions here.

Lovely stars, I have been making many too for the christmas tree. The instructions for the other version can be found by googling ‘STAR FROM STRIPS OF PAPER’ which will take you to a YouTube video.
