This little book has appeared here before, but the last time it featured was the first Advent calendar in 2017. That time it was posted because it unfolds into the shape of a star. This time it’s because it is made from circles.
You will need to cut five circles. I used my circle tool from Windfire Designs, but you could use a compass or just trace around a glass. My circle is about 8 cm (just over 3 inches) and I would not recommend going much smaller because folding would be difficult.
Make a template in your preferred manner and cut five circles. (Perhaps you can use some of the card stock left over from your Rummoli board for the template. )
If you are using a patterned paper, it is best if it is double-sided.
Fold each circle in half.
Fold the tips of each semi-circle to meet in the middle.
Open the circle completely, rotate 90 degrees, then re-fold the top and bottom to emphasize that crease.
Open the circle again and fold on the line where you previously folded in half. Turn the piece 90 degrees so the fold is at the top.
Fold the left and right corners down to meet the horizontal crease.
Open the circle again.
Reverse the last fold you made so that the circle looks like this:
Repeat with the other four circles. You can follow the instructions from this tutorial to add ribbon (or cord) and covers —you will need to trim your covers to match the curved pages— and you will have this:
Since this is intended as an ornament, I used a lucky star as a bead to keep the structure opened or closed.
