Square Dance

I recently received confirmation for a solo exhibition —tentatively titled Square Dance—opening in September 2020 at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery in Saskatoon. Half the proposed works in the show will be wall pieces like Moody Blues and In Winter.

An Accordion Book with Removable Spine

I saw this structure a while back on Pinterest. It turned up again recently. The image is from the announcement of a workshop —now long past— offered by Cristina Balbiano d’Aramengo. I tracked down an email address for her and … Continue reading

A Bookbinder’s Travel Kit

I wrote about the first two layers (four pockets) of my travel kit last week. Since this adaptation of the Zhen Xian Bao/Chinese Thread Book only has five pockets, today’s post will explain the combined bottom layer box and cover. … Continue reading

Little Projects

While I have some larger works in the planning stages, I have also been working on some little projects. I got all the backing of paper and cloth done for my travelling bookbinder version of the Zhen Xian Bao. (There … Continue reading

Byopia Press 2018 Advent Calendar: Day Twenty-four and A Self-closing Book Cover

Byopia Press 2018 Advent Calendar: Day Twenty-two and Another Card Case/Book Cover

From the outside, a cover made with a version of today’s card case looks just like the one I showed yesterday. (The orange-y book is yesterday’s fold, the flowery one is made with today’s version.) This picture of the inner … Continue reading

Byopia Press 2018 Advent Calendar: Day Twenty-one and A Card Case

I always seem to have more cards than will fit in my wallet easily. A small case for the ones I don’t use often (coffee cards, membership cards) has proven most useful. Today’s fold re-visits the structure of the Regency … Continue reading

Byopia Press 2018 Advent Calendar: Day Twenty and Protective Wrappers

Sometimes it’s a good idea for a book to have a protective wrapper. It may be because it does not readily lie closed on its own, like some accordion structures, or because it is an unusual shape which does not … Continue reading
