Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2020: Day Fifteen and a “Hidden Page” Book
More and more instruction in the book arts has been moved online because of Covid-19. For those of us who live far from major centres, this has been a real bonus. In April of this year the Minnesota Center for … Continue reading

Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2020: Day Ten and a One-Sheet Book
I originally posted this little one-sheet version of my artist’s book IF as a gift to my readers in June, 2015. (I have updated a broken link.) The book is another of my favourites. *****

Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2020: Day Two and A Winter Gift
This was the first DIY artist’s book that I posted, and it is still one of my favourites. It went up on December 21, 2014, so people who have begun following Byopia Press more recently may not be aware of … Continue reading

Friday Night Flicks: Bruno Munari
Italian artist/designer/inventor Bruno Munari published his “Libro Illeggibile” in 1949. He continued to create artist’s books —and many other things— until his death in 1998. Tonight’s flick from Edicion de Arte shows page-throughs of three of his artist’s books: An … Continue reading

A Clear Midnight Revisited
With July 7, the beginning of Tanabata celebrations in Japan, still a couple of days away, I thought I would re-post one of my favourite previous Tanabata projects, a DIY star-themed artist’s book from 2018. An accordion with interlocked diamond-shaped … Continue reading
Three thousand seven hundred and eighty
One of the mental games I played this week was doing arithmetic in my head, so I know that is the number of stitches it took to complete the designs on the little coloured panels for the nine versions of … Continue reading

Chinese Checkers aren’t from China
I have been working on an artist’s book for the March #areyoubookenough_hexagon challenge on Instagram. It includes a game of Chinese Checkers. In doing some research I discovered that Chinese Checkers are not Chinese at all.

Byopia Press Advent Calendar 2019: Day Seven and a Little Star Book
Today’s post re-visits a post from May of last year. It seemed fitting to include it in this year’s Advent calendar since it starts with squares, is square when closed, and can be used as a Christmas ornament.

It works, it works!
Last week I showed the first stages in designing an artist’s book using a hexatetraflexagon — a square flexagon with six faces. The project is complete, although there was a point at which I had my doubts.

A Possible Fan/Book
The title says “Possible” because I successfully made a fan/book that met my requirements this week, but I think it is only a solution and not necessarily the solution. I have continued working with the basic format that I showed … Continue reading
